Line 3 Oil Pipeline

The Line 3 oil pipeline is a thousand-mile-long pipeline transporting Canadian tar sands oil through indigenous lands and waters in Minnesota, including the headwaters of the Mississippi River. The project has faced multiple court battles and a massive civil disobedience campaign led by indigenous women. Enbridge, the private Canadian energy corporation, has paid millions for Minnesota law enforcement and public safety expenses related to the pipeline through a state-managed escrow account. The funds were used for law enforcement wages, training, protective gear, transportation, hotel rooms, and meals to patrol and protect the pipeline construction and workers.
