Description | RWE has begun commissioning the first 100MW phase of its 300MW Lingen electrolyser project, which will become Europe's largest green hydrogen facility. The project includes 200MW of PEM electrolysers from ITM Power and 100MW of alkaline electrolysers from Sunfire, with full capacity expected by 2027. It is located at RWE's existing gas-fired power plant in Lower Saxony, Germany. A 15-year offtake agreement with TotalEnergies secures demand for 30,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen starting in 2030, transported via a 600km pipeline. The project also plans to use hydrogen storage at the Gronau-Epe cavern, operational in 2027, to manage renewable intermittency. |
