Description

Description

LISGAR PARK The new Lisgar Park is located on a former, early 1900's warehouse site, on the south side of Queen Street West, in the vibrant West Queen West neighbourhood. The park will be the focus of the community as a major public space that serves as a venue for community initiated, cultural events. The design reflects the creative spirit of the neighbourhood, incorporating the community's early industrial heritage with its present artistic and innovative culture. The amenities include canopy trees, abundant sculptural seating and planting areas, and a grid of ‘art poles.’ The art poles will be fabricated primarily from structural timbers, salvaged from a recently demolished industrial building adjacent to the park site. The poles provide park lighting, and will incorporate event power and a range of art/event related infrastructure from tie-down hooks to new media hookups. Landscaped islands are surrounded by seating and provide a shady natural playground for children. The community and local stakeholders have been continuously and intensively engaged in the design of this park, through public meetings and workshops, and through the ‘Lisgar Park Working Group’ which is comprised of PFR staff, staff from other City Divisions and the local Councillor’s office, local residents and business owners, representatives of locally active arts groups, and the West Queen West BIA.
