Literary Expressions of Growing Up and Living in Europe

By tradition, advanced honest fiction books about growing up and living have not been common in Georgian literature. The few examples that exists is for obvious reasons more or less limited to Georgia. By bringing literary experiences from all over Europe to Georgia with help of novels, drama and youth literature the variations of the European humanistic spirit will, by the books included in this project, be available for the Georgian readers. The books included consists of many genres and themes that include female as well as male protagonists, emigrants, ethnic and religious minorities, people of different sexual orientation and functionally challenged people. Today Georgia is under pressure from Russia and their false narrative argues that gender equality, tolerance, inclusion, religious-, ethnic- and sexual-minority rights are bad unwanted non-orthodox European imports. By bringing a variation of European literature of excellence, that expresses the European humanistic values, the truly tolerant and inclusive European spirit that already exists but in a limited way will be reinforced among Georgians. The project “Literary Expressions of Growing Up and Living in Europe” will bring a variety of experiences to the Georgian readers with the help of the richness and diversity of European literature from six different European countries. The project will also bring a book about modern Georgian life and emigration translated from the small EU-neighbouring Georgian language to one of EUs main languages and the German, Austrian and Swiss readers. By doing this the project will strengthen the diversity and circulation of the European literature.
