Description

Description

The city of Liuzhou is located in the center of the autonomous region of Guangxi, which is one of the poorer regions in China. Liuzhou is located directly on the 430 km long Li Jiang River and has developed into an important transport and economic hub in the region in recent years. Around 3.7 million people live in Liuzhou, of which around 1.7 million people live in the catchment area of the Liuzhou Water Environment Management Project. The aim of the project is to expand and modernize the existing wastewater disposal system and thereby reduce environmental pollution and improve urban living conditions in the city of Liuzhou and neighboring counties. The project comprises a total of seven components with a total investment of around EUR 120 million, with the FC funding loan being used to modernize three sewage treatment plants to the highest Chinese cleaning standard 1A and to build a new sludge treatment plant. In particular, the FC funding loan will be used to finance the equipment and its installation as well as the associated construction work. The three other components (expansion and modernization of two additional sewage treatment plants to the 1A cleaning standard and the extension of the municipal sewage network to include a pumping station in the China-Europe Industrial Park) are financed by subsidies from the city and local bank loans.
