This report is a re-appraisal of a project for the Improvement of Livestock Production for Uruguay. This project will consist of selecting eligible farmers to participate; provide technical assistance and work out and appraise improvement programs appropriate to each farm; recommend planned and adequate credit needs for the improvement programs to the Bank of the Republic; supervise and technically assist the execution of the programs on each farm; undertake research and extension of the results of improved techniques; and enter into arrangements with other bodies, or initiate action towards the more effective realization of the Plan. The factors which are currently limiting the application of modern methods of pasture improvement and management are: inadequate technical knowledge among farmers, shortage of essential imported equipment, material, and developmental credit. It is of national interest to carry out this plan of technical improvement of livestock and agricultural production, which will include the rendering of economic and technical assistance to rural producers for the purpose of increasing livestock production.
