LNG Canada is an $18-billion liquefied natural gas export facility located in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada. The project is the country's first natural-gas export terminal, which opened in June 2025. Shell PLC and Mitsubishi Corp. are co-owners, with Shell holding a 40% stake and Mitsubishi 15%. The project took four years to obtain permits and seven years to build. Shell and Mitsubishi are planning to sell portions of their stakes to raise money for a $33-billion expansion of the facility, with a decision expected by the end of the year. The expansion includes a planned massive storage tank, with a $1-billion equity deal signed by five First Nations for the second phase of the project.
