Description | Hanwha Philly Shipyard secured a 348 billion won ($250 million) order to build a liquified natural gas (LNG) carrier for Hanwha Shipping LLC. This is the first export-bound LNG vessel order by a US shipyard in nearly 50 years. The vessel will be built in collaboration with Hanwha Ocean in South Korea, with a significant portion of construction at Hanwha Ocean's shipyard in Geoje, South Korea. The project aligns with upcoming US regulations requiring goods shipped between US ports to be transported on US-owned, operated, and built vessels, effective from 2029. Hanwha Ocean will transfer high-value shipbuilding technology to Philly Shipyard to enable it to build LNG tankers. |
