Description
Description | Dundee Precious Metals is evaluating self-supply electricity options for its $419 million Loma Larga gold and copper project in Ecuador. The project will require around 11 MW of power, which could be supplied by diesel, solar, a combination of both, or other alternatives. The company is conducting a study to determine the most viable operational and environmental solution, considering battery banks, solar systems, mixed systems, wind power, and photovoltaic options. The preliminary investment for the self-sufficiency solution is estimated at around $25 million. Dundee obtained an environmental permit for the construction of a 69kV line to connect to the national grid, allowing self-supply as a primary or backup source. Construction of the underground mine is preliminarily planned to begin in late 2026 or early 2027, with a useful life of 12 years. |
