This designation marks a major milestone in the revitalization of the commercial district, which has seen over 15 years of development efforts by the nonprofit Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP). Efforts include pedestrian improvements, outdoor stages and eating areas, exterior property enhancements, vibrant murals, plantings, social media support, a neighborhood print newspaper, restoration of the historic Flower Theater façade, and acquisition of commercial space for a coffee shop. The neighborhood will also benefit from the future Maryland Purple Line light rail station, expected to begin service in winter 2027. |
