Support Guatemala in its efforts to decarbonize its economy through the creation of a long-term Decarbonization Strategy (LTS), consistent with the 2050 decarbonization targets under the UNFCCC, based on the DDPLAC initiative, which will be validated through a process of participation and dialogue among different stakeholders from the public, private and civil society sectors. The specific objectives are: (i) facilitate national stakeholder engagement to understand how decarbonization can help promote sectoral and macroeconomic development objectives to improve both the relevance of local analysis and stakeholder acceptance at the national level; (ii) produce simulations to assess options to achieve zero-net emissions while promoting targets to inform the design of sectoral pathways in the LTS by the government; (iii) build national analytical capacity to achieve the objectives and to enhance the long-term sustainability of the project; (iv) create a policy roadmap to inform relevant decision makers on viable and effective options for implementing the LTS; and (v) use the results to communicate the feasibility and benefits of decarbonization in Guatemala and to the region.
