Description
Description | This project involves the study of best practices in designing, communicating and promoting public policies that are expected to deliver benefits in the long-term rather than in the short-term. The core objective of this project is to offer a comparative analysis of the everyday practices used by policy-makers in Australia (where the Jean Monnet Chair will be located) and at the European Union level to determine The project includes four components: research, teaching, networking, and public outreach. At the research level, the project will contribute to ongoing debates about the tensions between reconciling short-term and long-term policy objectives in an increasingly divided world driven by electoral considerations. At the teaching level, the project aims to give students the tools required to find the right balance between short- and long-term objectives when designing and promoting public policy, considering the political constraints under which professional policy-makers operate. The project will further build a network of policy practitioners from Australia and the European Union to share best practices and mentor students. Finally, a series of public outreach activities will be organised to raise awareness about the mechanisms used to design, communicate and implement long-term policies in the European Union. The comparative approach of this project also aims to identify best practices and strategies to shape intertemporal policies, with the aim of opening up a dialogue between professional policy-makers from Australia and the European Union. |
