Description
Description | The Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel (Tunnel) is a strategic road link for the metropolitan region, for Quebec as well as for Canada, for the transportation of people and goods. Part of Highway 25, it connects the east of the island of Montreal Longueuil, through the Charron Island in Boucherville. It is the largest submerged tunnel in Canada. The tunnel is the most used by trucks to access the island of Montreal and the highway network of western Quebec, in both directions and throughout the day. The Tunnel now allows the river crossing of more than 120,000 vehicles per day. The project work scope includes: · Access roads: widening the A20 motorway with the addition of a new bus and carsharing lane, as well rehabilitating 25 km of pavement (on the A25 and A20) and an interchange. · Tunnel: repairing the structure; installing new fire protection facings; landscaping and architectural finishes; modernising all electrical, electromechanical and supervisory infrastructure, as well as deploying new technologies to increase operator and user safety (fire safety equipment and smoke evacuation systems). |
