Description

Description

Opportunity The Louis-Hippoltye Lafontaine Bridge-Tunnel opened to traffic in 1967, and is part of Autoroute 25, connecting the Island of Montreal with the south shore of the river at Longueil, Quebec. It is a strategic road link for the metropolitan region, for Quebec as well as for Canada, for the transportation of people and goods. It is the largest submerged tunnel in Canada and is used mostly by trucks to access the island of Montreal and the highway network of western Quebec. Construction of the project will not begin until work on the new Champlain Bridge is complete due to traffic concerns. The work consists in carrying out a structural rehabilitation of the tunnel as well as an upgrade of its equipment and its systems. The ministry of transportation has publicly stated that whichever company wins the contract for the project would have to take on financing of the project in order to reduce the risk of schedule overruns.
