Description
Description | Louisiana is progressing on issuing Class VI permits for carbon capture injection wells after a pause in new applications was instituted in October 2025. The state issued its first Class VI permit in September 2025 for the Hackberry Carbon Sequestration project operated by Sempra Infrastructure. Three more permits are expected to be issued by the end of 2026, with one permit set to be issued in the next month and two others in the second and third quarters of 2026. The pause was to allow the state to properly review the high volume of applications received after gaining primacy over Class VI well permits from the EPA. |
