This project involves the plugging, inspection, and maintenance of thousands of oil wells along Louisiana's eroding coastline, many of which have sunk into open water due to land loss, sinking land, and rising seas. The state faces challenges in plugging these wells, especially those now in open water, which are more expensive and technically difficult to manage. The project also addresses environmental hazards posed by leaking wells and the financial gap in funding for plugging these wells.
