Description

Description

The Arctic Energy project aims to develop and test a model that can be used to simulate energy production in Arctic municipalities. This shall be based on renewable sources including wind, solar, biomass and thermal energy. In addition, the possibilities for using energy storage and smart grids will be studied. The new models take into account the impact of renewable sources, technologies used, including investment and maintenance, as well as environmental and social impacts. The model can be used to simulate renewable energy production in an optional limited municipality (restricted in terms of energy production and location). It enables evaluation of the profitability of different hybrid solutions and makes it possible to compare renewable energy production with, for example, oil use. It also serves as an instrument in decision-making, enabling renewable electricity generation at the planning stage. The finished model is tested in several areas in northern Sweden, Norway and Finland. The intention is to develop a model that after the end of the project can be used as a planning tool for SMEs, for example. The project can create networks between SME entities and research and development organisations. The intention is to develop a network that can offer municipalities a simulation of renewable electricity generation as an overall service including planning, equipment, installations and maintenance. The model can be used to evaluate the need for smart grids. The intention is to create a consortium for a Horizon 2020 application for smart networks.
