The machine will be 16.4 metres in diameter, 120 metres long, and weigh over 5,000 tonnes. It will dig two parallel tunnels under the Thames, each large enough for three lanes of traffic at 70mph. The machine is designed to handle varying ground conditions and will be powered by renewable electricity. The project aims to double road capacity across the Thames east of London and reduce congestion at the Dartford crossing. |
