Description | The project transformed the former site of the privately-owned Phipps Playground into a vibrant new public park featuring firefighter-themed play equipment, a spray shower area, a restored historic pavilion, and a commemorative flagpole honoring Lt. Michael R. Davidson, a Sunnyside native who gave his life in the line of duty in 2018. The playground includes new play equipment for children of all ages, a spray play area with water features, a commemorative flagpole, a seating area, a restored historic pavilion with game and picnic tables, and a public restroom within the existing historic shed. NYC Parks acquired the property in September 2019. |
