Description | In December 2003, the government of Angola awarded through competitive bid a 20 year concession to operate Luanda Container Terminal to Sogester. Sogester was a Special Purpose Comapny formed by Gesto de Fundos and APM Terminals (APMT), a subsidy of AP Moller - Maersk Group. The Luanda container terminal, which handled more than 195,000 teu in 2002, included 550 m of berth and a 15-hectare container yard. The concession contract was officially signed in July 2007. Under the terms of the contract, the consortium became responsible for operations, maintenance, repair and human resources. Under the terms of the tender the consortium agreed to invest US$ 53 million within 5 years. This project was previously entered as signed in 2003, while financial closure was reached in 2007.
