Luapasso Mini Hydropower Plant

Escom, from Portugal was planning the development of the 26MW Luapasso Mini Hydropower Plant. The plant was to be build in two phases, the first phase including 12.8MW. The first phase encompasses the Samuele hydropower plant (12.8MW), part of the Luapasso project. The project was a joint venture between state-owned ENE and Escom. The project company was called Hidroluapasso SA. The project received a construction permit by the Angolese government in 2007, including a foreign investment permit, formal authorization was published in April 2008. At least part of the output was to be used for the local mines. The EPC contracts were signed in 2009.
