Description | A new mega data centre is planned to be built in a rural area of eastern Germany, in the town of Luebbenau, to support European AI ambitions and digital sovereignty. The data centre will consist of six modules, each the size of four football fields, and will offer secure and independent infrastructure for European businesses and citizens. Three of the data centres are expected to be operational by the end of 2027, with a capacity to accommodate up to 100,000 GPUs. The facility will be powered by green energy and partly built with recycled materials from a former power plant. There are plans to use residual heat from the servers to heat homes in the surrounding region from 2028. |
