Description | Globeleq has acquired a 51% equity stake in Zambia-based Lunsemfwa Hydro Power Company (LHPC), which operates two hydroelectric plants with a combined capacity of 56 MW and is developing a 20 MW solar PV project. This acquisition marks Globeleq's entry into Zambia's energy market and its first hydropower investment in Africa. The transaction is expected to complete in the second half of 2025, pending approvals. LHPC supplies electricity to Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) and private sector clients under long-term agreements and holds a Southern African Power Pool trading license for cross-border sales. Globeleq is also developing a 400 MW+ renewable energy portfolio in Zambia including solar, wind, battery storage, and hybrid projects. |
