Lutsel K’e - New Diesel Power Plant Facility

This project consists of replacing the existing power plant that is nearing the end of its lifespan and has a fuel-efficiency of 3.2 kWh/L, which is well below the NTPC’s target of 3.8 kWh/L. The project scope will include decommissioning the existing power plant and the relocation and construction of a new plant with three similarly-sized generators in a new location away from the center of the hamlet to reduce noise, air pollution and the potential for a spill into Great Slave Lake. The scope of the project also includes the purchasing of wood poles for transmission and distribution specifications to connect the new facility to the community electrical distribution grid. This project will provide the community of Lutsel K’e with a more fuel-efficient new plant to replace the existing end-of-life power plant and address the issues of community-wide outages and energy insecurity in the area due to the low capacity and unreliability of the existing plant.
