Description | Unit Energy Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., a joint venture between VS Hydro and Lanka Ventures PLC, developed the 4.85MW Kadawala 1 and 1.32MW Kadawala 2 small hydropower plants (total 6.17MW). The project was located on the Mahaweli River, Ginigathhena, Nuwara Eliya District. Annual output was 19GWh. The second phase had a separate project company: Saman Jala Viduli Company (Pvt) Ltd. The plant commenced operations in March 2008. The turbine was supplied by Voith Siemens Hydro Kraft GmbH, Germany. The equity portion of Lanka Ventures was Rs. 85 million (US$0.66 million). Financing was supplied by DFCC and HNB. The project was also classified as RERED & RERED-Additional Financing. Total project cost was unknown, but ESTIMNATED at US$6.2 million.
