M53's Newest Bridge Construction by Highways England

Highways England is installing a new bridge over the M53 in Merseyside to carry the southbound entry slip road onto the motorway at junction 2 near Moreton in the Wirral. The project involves lifting eight huge steel beams into place, each 24 meters long and weighing approximately 11 tonnes, using a crane. Glass-reinforced plastic panels will be laid between the beams to form the base of the new bridge deck. The project also includes strengthening concrete bridge supports, installing new concrete barriers, pouring concrete onto the bridge's new deck, fitting safety barriers, installing street lights, and surfacing the road.
