Description

Description

Mackenzie is excited about reducing their Recreation Centre’s energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The remote community (Beaver, Dënéndeh, Takla, Kelly Lake and Tse’khene territories) is surrounded by stunning forests, lakes, and mountains. Residents would like to ensure that the enveloping nature is kept as pristine as possible. This will be done using a heat pump to offset the natural gas used to power the amenities that support the diverse population of the town, neighbouring regions and first nation territories. To counteract the energy used by the heat pump, a solar panel array will be installed on the roof of the facility to generate electricity. The facility needs to replace their damaged arena slab and dasher boards. The new arena slab can store heat for the winter and will ensure that the arena will remain usable by the public. Keeping the arena open and operating efficiently will promote a stronger community with respect to mental and physical health, and social relations.
