Description	Opportunity Building an all-weather highway through the Mackenzie Valley to the Arctic Coast has been a strategic priority for the Government of the Northwest Territories for more than fifty years. Currently, the Sahtu region is served by a winter road but due to climate change its annual season has become shorter and less reliable. Additionally, there has been an increase in industrial traffic in the region which has put further pressure on current infrastructure and demonstrated the need for all-season access. Currently, a highway is being construction from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk with planning underway to extend the highway from Wrigley to Norman Wells. The proposed highway passes through numerous Aboriginal territories including Dehcho, Tulita district of the Sahtu, K’ahsho Got’ine district of the Sahtu and the Gwich’in Settlement Area. The Government of the Northwest Territories is committed to consulting all affected communities.
