Macquarie Point Stadium Roof Trials

A prototype section of the roof was constructed over a specially prepared cricket pitch at the site of the proposed Macquarie Point stadium in Tasmania. The trials involved cricketers, broadcasters, and specialist lighting experts testing how natural light filters through the roof, shadow movement, and visibility for players and broadcasters. The roof material tested was a translucent polymer called ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) with a matte finish to diffuse sunlight and minimize shadows. The trials validated the roof design before construction tenders are finalized.
