Description
Description | The proposed humanitarian assistance operation complements the efforts of the Malagasy government and its partners to help populations threatened by epidemics. The operation consists of the supply of goods for the treatment of patients (diagnosis and case management: laboratory, drugs, etc.) and the prevention of the spread of plague through large-scale disinsectisation (insecticides, personal protective equipment - PPE, etc.) to eliminate plague-carrying fleas and rats. The total emergency (short-term) requirement is estimated at approximately USD 1.63 million for procurement and distribution of products and services (care, insecticide spraying, monitoring, laboratory). The Bank Group's expected contribution to the financing of the operation in the form of an emergency humanitarian grant amounts to USD 1,000,000 net of taxes, to be drawn from the Special Relief Fund (SRF). The grant will be used to complement funding from the Government, the World Bank, WHO and UNICEF. The emergency assistance from the Bank Group will be used to purchase medical equipment and inputs in 9 batches, to replenish and/or deploy the batches needed to fight the epidemic and manage cases. Given the urgency and the socio-health risks, the operation should be implemented as soon as possible, and its total duration should not exceed six (6) months. |
