Madagascar - National Maize Project

The present intervention concerns the National Maize Project. It should increase maize production by strengthening research and extension services and setting up a credit system to enable farmers to intensify their farming methods. A total of 24,650 ha and about 19,000 farmers should be supervised. The project is also expected to result in a substantial increase in food production and a significant gain in foreign exchange as well as an increase in meat production. The main components of the project are: (A) support research; (B) support for seed production; (C) studies; (D) extension; (E) credit; (F) infrastructure; (G) local staff and technical assistance; and (H) monitoring and evaluation.
