Description

Description

The measure contributes to the sustainable management of natural resources within the framework of the national strategies for poverty reduction and the national environmental program (DC program objective), in particular to the preservation of Madagascar's diverse and unique flora and fauna and its use through nature tourism. The latter is one of the national development priorities and has proven to be an initiator of socio-economic development in remote rural areas around the nature reserves. The sponsor, Madagascar National Parks (MNP), will use the measure to cover part of its total costs for investments and operations. This is intended to enable MNP to sustainably protect and value Madagascar's sensitive ecosystems in the protected areas and their peripheral zones in cooperation with the affected population (FC module objective). The target group in the narrower sense are the residents of the protected areas, who mostly live in poor conditions and use the natural resources for their livelihood. With total costs of around EUR 48 million over a period of 5 years, the two FC modules each include a financial contribution of EUR 5 million.
