As part of the national poverty reduction strategy and Madagascar's national environmental program, the project contributes to the sustainable management of natural resources (DC program objective) and in particular to the preservation of Madagascar's diverse and unique flora and fauna and their use through nature tourism. The measure continues the successful support of the project sponsor Madagascar National Parks (MNP) in the implementation of its strategic plan (2014 - 2024), mainly through the financing of investment and operating costs. Furthermore, MNP is to be supported through technical and organizational advice to further improve its organizational efficiency, reduce operating costs and increase income. The aim of the project (FC module objective) is to enable MNP to continue to sustainably protect and value Madagascar's sensitive ecosystems in the protected areas and their peripheral zones in cooperation with the affected population. The target group in the narrower sense are the residents of the protected areas, who mostly live in poor conditions and use the natural resources for their livelihood. We estimate the total cost of implementing the strategic plan in the planned implementation period from 2018 to 2021 at EUR 37 million. The FC contribution in this period amounts to EUR 12 million.
