Mahalaxmi Racecourse Central Park Redevelopment

planned

Mumbai is transforming the Mahalaxmi Racecourse into a 295-acre Central Park, the largest urban park in India. The redevelopment includes 125 acres from the existing racecourse and 170 acres from reclaimed land for the Coastal Road. The project integrates green spaces, a 10-lakh-square-foot underground sports complex with Olympic-standard facilities, a three-level underground parking for 5,000 cars, a 9-acre convention centre, multiple thematic gardens, a 31-acre botanical garden, and a 12-acre urban forest. Connectivity features include an underpass linking the park to Annie Besant Road and the nearby Metro 3 station. The project emphasizes sustainability, heritage conservation, and zero-carbon urban design.
