Description | Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) was established in 1995 to construct a piped gas distribution system in Mumbai, India's commercial capital. MGL was a joint venture between UK based BG Group and GAIL (India) Limited, each holding 49.75% equity. The remaining equity (0.5%) was held by the Government of Maharashtra. As of December 2007, MGL’s piped natural gas network (1863 km) supplied gas to more than 341,703 connections in Mumbai - 341,000 households, 658 commercial and 45 industrial customers. Additionally, MGL's Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered 53,500 taxis, 128,177 auto rickshaws and 410 BEST buses and 246 Private Buses and 44 Mini Buses across the city through it's network of 128 CNG stations, thus contributing to more than 750 tonnes reduction of pollutants every day. BG Group made an initial equity investment of US$ 15 million. British Gas invested US$ 9.0 million in the project as of July 1997. http://www.mahanagargas.com/ |
