Description

Description

This project aims to develop a modern and environmentally sustainable onshore wind farm that will contribute to Estonia’s renewable energy targets and support the broader transition to clean energy. The Maima Wind Farm will be located in Tarva and Tõrdu villages, near the small borough of Pärnu-Jaagupi in Pärnu County. The site was selected through a Municipal Designated Spatial Plan based on its favourable wind conditions, low environmental impact, and proximity to existing infrastructure. According to the spatial plan, the maximum permitted number of wind turbines is eight. The development of a 31.1 MW section of the wind farm is supported by the Union Renewable Energy Financing Mechanism (RENEWFM). The project is foreseen to enter into operation by the first half of 2028. In addition to wind generation, the project includes the potential integration of an energy storage system. This system would store excess electricity during periods of high generation and release it during lower production times, thereby enhancing grid stability and ensuring a more consistent energy supply. With an estimated capacity factor of around 37%, the wind farm is expected to generate approximately 133 000 megawatt-hours of clean electricity annually—enough to power tens of thousands of households. The grid connection will be established through the local transmission network in Pärnu-Jaagupi, ensuring efficient integration into Estonia’s power system.
