Description

Description

The MARTE project addresses the need for greater European defence autonomy and superiority by addressing the crucial area of the Main Battle Tank (MBT) where many EU Member States (MS) operate outdated MBT models. Key objectives of MARTE are to: (1) Study and design of a new European MBT platform as well consideration of technology upgrades for current MBTs altogether addressing all future threats and needs, operating in diverse environments, offering superior protection, detection, and firepower; (2) Increase the competitive advantage of European companies in the worldwide MBT industry, fostering economic growth and high-tech job creation; (3) Reinforce EU Defence Technological and Industrial Base autonomy, reduce dependence on third-country innovations focusing on European technologies ; (4) Foster cross-border cooperation, involving 15 SMEs and 4 Mid-Caps; (5) Enhance cost-effectiveness and lifecycle efficiency compared to existing MBT solutions; (6) Further contribute to the integration of the European defence market with the involvement of 49 entities and support from 11 MS and Norway. MARTE will be implemented through six work packages. The project will begin with CONOPS and System requirements, followed by technology studies and an evaluation. System and subsystem specifications will be performed and completed with the system and subsystem design description. System Architecture will be designed, resulting in the Preliminary Design Review as the final output of the project. MARTE will be efficiently managed thanks to a dedicated company (MARTE ARGE), a well-defined methodology, identified milestones and KPIs. The consortium aims to achieve project objectives within 24 months, with an EDF support of 20M€. MARTE's innovative approach and large-scale European collaboration will pave the way to the market introduction of the new MBT by 2035.
