Mainstreaming Gender Equality in SSA Academia

MAGNETISE aims to support Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) HEIs in introducing and/or enforcing policies and structures that promote gender equality at institutional level. This requires the transfer of ‘know-how’ in establishing and implementing comprehensive GEPs through a holistic approach targeting, first, HEI staff by involving them in capacity building trainings, and second, HEI students by gaging their interest in leading awareness raising actions. In addition, the project aspires to build synergies with civil society and policy stakeholders at local and national levels to create a multiplier effect and yield systemic change in the education field of two SSA countries, South Africa and Uganda. MAGNETISE will produce the following key results: • 5 comprehensive Gender Equality Plans (GEP), • A handbook for GEP monitoring and implementation, • At least 5 HEI staff training sessions around GEP monitoring and implementation, • A digital knowledge hub on gender equality issues targeting students, • 5 community awareness campaigns targeting civil society, • 2 national policy roundtables and a final conference involving key education stakeholders, • 2 policy briefs about GEP implementation in the academia, • A sustainability plan that will guarantee the continuation of GEP enforcing mechanisms after the project has ended.
