project in planning

The project involves the reconstruction and modernisation of Makola market, located in Accra. Some of the challenges of the existing market that the redevelopment will address are inadequate accommodation for prospective traders, lack of basic amenities, rampant fire outbreaks, congestion, lack of accessibility and improper waste management. The new market is envisaged as centred around three-storey building, the ground floor containing a historic market hall, with central open spaces for multi-purpose trading activities and peripheral shops. Facilities at the market will include a administrative offices, day-care centres, clinics, paved grounds, drainage and water harvesting facilities.
