Description | The Malampaya gas project is being developed as a joint venture between Shell (45%), Texaco (45%) and state-owned company PNOC (10%). The gas transported in the pipeline will be directed to three new power plants with a combined generating capacity of 2,700 MW (Shell and Texaco have not equity on these power plants). The pipeline engineering and designed was awarded to BRK, a joint venture between JP Kenny and Brown & Root. Pipelaying began in Jun. 2000 and gas delivery for commercial purposes was expected to start in Jan. 2002 for a period of 20 years. The Malampaya project includes the production and transport of gas with a total cost of US$ 2 billion, but the pipeline itself cost US$ 432 million. Shell Corp. retained the operations of the whole project. |
