Malawi - Blantyre Water Supply Project

It will consist of the following pricipal component: (i) The modification of existing intake and the expansion of raw water intake treatment plant and clear water pumps, as well as the construction of a balancing tank and the provison of surge protection equipment at Walker's Ferry. ii) The construction of a new booster station between Walker's Ferry and Chileka and the provision and ecpansion of pumping plants for the new station and for Chileka as well as the construction of balancing tanks. iii) Addition of about 8,000 ft. 27 ins. in diameter and about 7,000 ft. 24 ins. in diameter mains parallel to the existing treated water mains. (iv) Expansion and improvement of the distribution and transmission system by the construction of eight service reservoirs, three break pressure tanks and expansion of distribution pumping stations as well as laying of 182,000 ft. mains ranging in size from 6 ins. (150 mm) to 24 ins. (600 mm) in diameter. (v) Extension of Mudi pumps and pumping station. (vi) Construction of staff housing, laboratory and workshop, the procurement of vehicles, tools accounting machines and mis- cellaneous plant and the training of personnel. (vii) Consulting services for detailed engineering design and supervision and financial management.
