Malawi - District Centers Sanitation Study

The proposed sanitation study for seven district centers in Malawi is designed to permit the selection of projects that will strengthen the provision of sanitation services in the country. The study complements on-going interventions being financed by the ADF and other donors in the water and sanitation sector in Malawi, these being primarily concentrated in water supply. The study shall be conducted in two phases: Phase I shall involve basic data collection, compilation of criteria, guidelines and standards leading to the reparation of master plans; while phase II shall undertake feasibility studies, preliminary designs, detailed designs and draft tender documents for the seven towns. The study shall review existing coordination arrangement of donor activities in the sanitation sub-sector. The study will propose the most cost effective means of providing/improving sanitation facilities in the study towns, and the use and management of these facilities.
