Malawi - Skills Development and Income Generation Project

The Skills Development And Income Generation Project is part of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Process, which should serve to provide a blue print for poverty reduction activities. It should support the operationalization of the Government poverty reduction strategy through the provision functional literacy, basic business management, skills development training and improved access to micro-finance to enhance the ability of groups of poor rural women and youth to engage in viable small scale income generating activities. The project should also improve access to micro-credit services to enable the beneficiaries to utilize the acquired life skills to engage in income generation activities. Furthermore, support should be provided for the institutional strengthening of the Government agencies relevant for the execution of the project and that of the project’s management facility. The project components are as follows: (i) Functional Literacy; (ii) Basic Business Management; (iii) Vocational and Skills Development Training; (iv) Institutional Strengthening; (v) Micro-finance Scheme and (vi) Project Management.
