Description

The Malaysian airports authority sold 18% of its shares to domestic investors in December 1999. With this first share issuance, the state-owned company raised US$ 130 million. The public issue of these 110 million shares represent 18% of the company's shares to be transferred to private investors. This issuance is part of a partial privatization that will eventually place 48% of the company's shares on domestic and foreign sponsors' control. Malaysia Airports currently operates 37 airports in Malaysia, including a 50-year concession agreement to manage the new Kuala Lampur International Airport. In March 2010, Khazanah Nasional Bhd successfully completed the divestment of a total US$85.15 million ordinary shares in Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) representing about 7.74% of the issued and paid-up capital in airport operator. The divestment was done, placing for about US$125 million cash. The sale took place as private placement which targeted institutional investors. In addition in November 2010, Khazanah Nasional Bhd sold another 6% in the company through private placement for a total amount of 128.3 million.
