The development objective of the Pension and Social Protection Administration Project for Maldives is to support the establishment of a new pension authority and strengthening capacity at existing institutions of the recipient in order to effectively implement a new pension system and to provide a platform for additional social protection programs. There are two components to the project. The first component of the project is strengthening capacity for implementing the new pension program. This component will have three sub-components: (a) strengthening capacity for policy analysis and legal framework; (b) institution and capacity building for project implementation; and (c) co-financing for the Public Accounting System (PAS). The second component of the project is public awareness campaign provision of technical advisory services, goods, and training to the Ministry of Health and Family (MOHF) to design and implement an overall public information campaign to educate members of the new pension system on the objectives and mechanisms of the system including improving awareness of: 1) employers on their contributory obligations; 2) workers on their rights and benefits; and 3) senior citizens on the mechanism for claiming basic pension.
