Description

On June 29, 2010 the Government of Maldives awarded a 25-year concession to consortium of GMR Infrastructure Limited GMR,[India,77%]and Malayasia Airports Holding Berhad(MAHB,[Malayasia, 23%] to operate and expand the Male International Airport. Three bidders competed for the concession: TAV Airports Holdings(Turkey)with Aéroportde Paris Management(France); Flughafen Zurich AG(Switzerland)and GVK Infrastructure Ltd.(India). The Net Present Value of upfront fees as well as the reneue share of fuel and non fuel revenues were the bidding criteria. The total project cost was approximately US $400 milion to build a new passenger that was carbon-neutral. Additionaly, US $78 million were to be paid in upfront fees. The project reached financial closure and was subsequently handed over to the winning consortium on November 29, 2010 when the winning consortium raised US $500 million with approximately 75% debt and 25% equity.
