Malha Sudeste railway concession extension

This project involves the extension of the 1,800km Malha Sudeste railway concession, which crosses territories of the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 30-year extension was signed with MRS Logística, the existing concessionaire which has operated the rail network since 1996. The extension is effective from 2026, taking MRS' control over the railway through to 2056. MRS Logística's largest shareholders are: Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) and subsidiaries with 38%, Minerações Brasileiras Reunidas (MBR) with 33%, Vale with 11% and Usiminas Participações e Logística (UPL) with 11%. The total investment stands at $1.89 billion (BRL10 billion), which will go towards expanding capacity and capex. The contract between MRS Logistica and The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Infrastructure was signed on July 29th, 2022.
