Mali - Ansongo District Rural Development Project

The Ansongo District Rural Development Project aims the parcelling out and development of 6 irrigation areas with total water control, covering a net surface area of 450 ha, and controlled submersion plains of a total arable area of 2,610 net ha. It’s consistent with the Government’s priorities, aimed at ensuring food security given the climatic hazards, and significantly improving living standards in Ansongo District in a sustainable manner. The project should contribute to the consolidation and development of rural groups (120) and provide technical and financial support to target groups (groups, villages, municipalities, youths and women) to enable them to design and start up activities and micro-enterprises to ensure sustainable development of local resources. In order to prepare the rural communities to take charge of their own activities, the project should organize literacy and training programmes for the various groups that are partners in the project, village dignitaries, out-of-school youths, managers of micro-enterprises, and future municipal administrators. The project has four components, namely: (A) Irrigation Schemes; (B) Support for Sustainable Development of the Rural Economy; (C) Literacy and Training; (D) Project Management.
