Description | In June 2014, BMR Jamaica Wind Ltd. signed a 20-year power purchase agreement from the Jamaican Public Service Company. The 36-MW wind power plant was set to be developed near Malvern, St Elizabeth. The Project was awarded to Blue Mountain Renewables LLC (BMR Energy), the parent company of BMR Jamaica Wind Ltd, in September 2013 on a Build, Own and Operate (BOO) basis. The project cost was estimated at US$ 89.6 million. In October 2014, the IFC granted a US$ 10 million A-loan to BMR Jamaica Wind. In addition, the IFC-Canada Climate Change Program also approved a US$ 10 million loan. In January 2015, OPIC granted a US$ 42.7 million to the project. Equity investment amounted to US$ 26.9 million. Vestas was contracted as equipment supplier and as EPC developer. Construction works commenced in February 2015. Operations were expected to commence in 2016. |
