Description

Description

Mink is an alien harmful predator from North America to Europe. Predation of mink has led to declines and extinctions of a wide range of native bird, mammalian and amphibian species in Europe, including in the Botnia-Atlantic region. Mink is one of the biggest threats to biodiversity in our nutritious wetlands and archipelagos. The main objective of the project is to establish a large-scale, permanent and efficient management system, based on the latest scientific knowledge, in the most vulnerable parts of the Botnia-Atlantica area, i.e. in the marine and coastal areas and in the most important rivers running to the sea, including the nutrient-rich wetlands attached to the rivers. Our new management system is low-intensity, large-scale and permanent. The system is based on interventions in each biologically possible minkhone home area and leads to the functional extinction of the species within the area.
